God's Will About Healing

What is God's Will about healing? For over sixty years that I have been a child of God I have heard almost every comment you can imagine concerning divine healing. Here is a list of just a few of the different views I have heard.

  • 1. God doesn’t heal at all.

  • 2. Healing ceased during the early church age.

  • 3. God only heals some.

  • 4. God will only heal if it is a life or death situation.

  • 5. God does heal all who will believe.

  • I want to look at each one of these statements and see if they have merit. We need to know what God has to say about this subject. Is it for the Believer today?

    Number one

“God doesn’t heal at all”. We know from the scripture that this statement is untrue because Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever”. If Jesus healed some, and we know He did, and if this scripture is true, and we know it is, then He is healing people today. Healing is part of our covenant, however, it is up to each individual to believe it and receive it. Just because healing belongs to each Child of God does not mean they will be healed. You must believe God heals, that He is a healer before you can release faith to receive it. Healing doesn’t just fall on a person like cherries from a tree. Salvation is received because one believes the Word of God. Healing was purchased on the same cross, at the same time redemption was purchased, but one must believe it to receive it.

    Number two

“Healing ceased during the early church age”. I have heard that comment so many times I have lost count. I would like, just one time, to ask those people who believe that statement just when did healing cease? At what moment in time did God decide to do away with one of His redemptive names “Jehovah-rapha: “I am the Lord your physician, or I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15: 26. This is not only a promise God made, but it is also an ordinance, which means an established practice. We have the promise of God concerning His will to heal. Psalms 93:5 (LB) says, “Your royal decrees cannot be changed…” Jeremiah 1:12 says, “…I will hasten my word to perform it”. I don’t believe God has taken healing out of the plan of salvation, nor has He ceased being Jehovah-rapha to all who will receive Him.

    Number three

“God only heals some”. If God only heals some people, then He only redeems some people. When Jesus went to the whipping post where He was beaten for our healing, and then He was taken to the cross it was for all mankind, for any person who will believe and receive him as Lord and Savior.

The lash that tore open His back and the blood that poured from those wounds was for our healing, not for our sins. Matthew 8:17 (LB) “This fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, He took our sicknesses and bore our diseases.”

Jesus took our sins when He was nailed to the cross and was made to be sin for us. II Corinthians 5:21 (LB)“For God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then, in exchange he poured God’s goodness into us!”

What I want the reader to understand is the disease problem and the sin problem of mankind was paid for at one time by one Man, Jesus. If John 3:16 belongs to whosoever, then healing is also for “whosoever”, because you can’t separate healing from redemption. The blood of Jesus purchased both eternal life and healing.

    Number four

“God will only heal if it is a life or death situation.” Anyone who believes this statement hasn’t read the scripture. All anyone needs to do is follow Jesus throughout the New Testament and see what He did while He was on earth. Jesus healed all manors of disease, deaf ears, blind eyes, crippled bodies, and not any of these healings are a life or death problem.

I know many people today will only call on God when their Doctor has given them up or they know there is no earthly cure, but that isn’t God’s perfect will. He will heal the smallest most unimportant problem His children may have in their bodies, but we have to come to Him in faith. Most Christians don’t realize the sickness and disease problem has already been taken care of on the cross. Not only is it taken care of, healing has already been given to you. It is yours right now, and all you need to do is accept it just like you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

    Number five

“God does heal all who will believe.” God is a healing God, and Jesus came to earth to reveal to man the heart of the Father God. All anyone needs to do is look at Jesus to see the Will of God concerning healing. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing good and healing ALL that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. Acts 10:38

This scripture not only tells you where disease and sickness comes from, but what the Will of God is concerning sickness, and what Jesus did about it. Scripture tells us that Jesus has not changed, and will never change. He is Jehovah-rapha in the Old Testament, Jehovah-rapha in the New Testament, and He is and always will be Jehovah-rapha in your life and mine today.

Jesus carried His blood into Heaven to seal the New Covenant, and His blood is still speaking from the Mercy Seat for mankind today. No one can erase or change the moment in time when Jesus was lashed for our healing. It is forever settled along with complete and eternal redemption. Jesus has finished His part of redemption, now it is up to each person individually to either accept or reject His Gift. Healing is a gift and must be received.

  • You can’t earn it.
  • You can’t purchase it.
  • You can’t beg and cry to get it.
  • It is God’s Gift to mankind and it has to be received, and the way you accept His Gift is by faith.

This short lesson cannot cover all there is to learn about healing, but I pray this will help the Reader to realize that healing belongs to them. The foundation to healing is to settle forever the fact healing is part of your redemption and realize God knows where you are, who you are, and that you are one of His beloved children, that He loves you and wants you to live your life free of disease. That is why Jesus was beaten almost to the point of death so you could be healed.

Dear Reader, you don’t have to be a spiritual giant to receive from God, even a little child has faith in their father, and that is really all it takes, faith in your Heavenly Father’s Word.
