Baptized In The Holy Spirit
Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit? There are many Born Again Believers in the world today, but few are experiencing the supernatural power of God, because they have not received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. God’s Word declares that in these last days His Spirit is being poured out upon all flesh. If you are hungry for more of God, His invitation to you is “come and drink at My Fountain.” God said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my Word abides forever.” Men’s ideas will also pass away, but the Word of God is Eternal Truth. Therefore, what we read in God’s Word is the truth regardless of the things we may have been taught in the past. “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire”. Matthew 3:11 It is obvious that this verse is not speaking of water baptism since Jesus’ disciples actually did the baptizing. The baptism of the Holy Spirit was spoken of by Isaiah, Jeremiah, the Apostles and the Lord Jesus. The Comforter He promised to send to the disciples was the Holy Spirit. Learning the truth about the baptism of the Holy Spirit will dispel all fears and misunderstandings. For me, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was the most enriching experience, next to being born again. The Holy Spirit will unveil the scriptures, help you pray the perfect will of God, enrich your fellowship with the Father, and help you to walk in the favor of God. He will speak to you the things He hears the Father say. He is not a silent partner. He will direct our path if we learn to listen when He speaks. “When the Holy Spirit, who is truth, comes, he shall guide you into all truth, for he will not be presenting his own ideas, but will be passing on to you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.” John 16:13 (LB) The baptism of the Holy Spirit is receiving the Third Person of the Godhead to dwell with you bodily The Bible notes a distinct difference between being born again of the spirit and being baptized with the Holy Spirit. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are born of the Spirit of God. We become Children of God, a part of God’s Family. Jesus is our Lord and His life has recreated us, the old spirit has passed away and we now have a new spirit born of God. Because God’s Spirit is Holy, we say we have received the Holy Spirit, but this is not receiving the Third Person of the Godhead, which is the Holy Spirit Himself. When we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we receive power from on High spoken of in Acts chapter one. The gift of salvation is to the world but the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for the Church. A sinner cannot receive the Holy Spirit until he is born again. “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:17 “Neither do men put new wine into old bottles; else the bottles break and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish; but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.” Matthew 9:17 To receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit,(baptized in the Holy Spirit) one must be Born Again. Acts 1:4-8 and Acts 2:1-4 gives the promise and the fulfillment of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. This was not a one time occurrence but many believers were filled with the Holy Spirit many years after Pentecost. The physical sign was the speaking in other tongues (a language one doesn’t know, given by the Holy Spirit). Acts 2:6 “He said to them, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed (Born Again)? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them. Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” Acts 19:2-6 These scriptures give an account of the disciples laying their hands upon New Believers and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. The same event is still happening today to those who will believe. The Word of God says, in Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever”. If we are to believe this scripture, we have to believe that Christians are still receiving the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Evidence of this event is spoken of in Acts 10:44-46. “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God…” The event spoken of in Acts chapter ten take place up to twenty years after the day of Pentecost. We understand from these scriptures the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an act subsequent to being born again. When people are baptized with the Hoy Spirit, they speak with other tongues. I want to say this, “You don’t have to receive the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues to go to Heaven. Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior makes you a Child of God and Heaven becomes your home after physical death, however, receiving the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Godhead gives you the power Jesus spoke of in Acts 1:7. Jesus is and always will be the Son of God during His time on earth and now in Heaven at the right hand of the Father. He did not need to be redeemed, we did, however, He did need the Holy Spirit to help fulfill His ministry, and that is why the Holy Spirit descended upon Him when He was baptized. (Matthew 1:16, Luke 3:22) If you have studied the Bible very much you know Jesus did not start His ministry until the Holy Spirit came. Therefore, if Jesus needed the power of the Holy Spirit, how much more do we need Him in our life to fulfill the call God has on our life. This wonderful experience is for all who Believe and desire to receive. “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” Acts. 2:39 The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the doorway to the supernatural. A Divine Personality comes to live in us, dwell in us, and make His home in us. If you are hungry for more of God, want a deeper relationship with God, have the scriptures come alive to you, then you want to receive the One who is all these things. The Father God wants His children to receive the power that is provided for them by the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. Jesus and the Holy Spirit worked together fulfilling His ministry in the earth, and the Holy Spirit wants to work through you fulfilling your place in the Body. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.” Jesus speaks of the infilling of the Holy Spirit as a gift. We have the choice to receive or reject any gift offered to us. As I said before, receiving the Holy Spirit is not necessary to go to heaven, but He is necessary if you are to walk in the power provided by His indwelling. If you would like to receive this Wonderful Gift, all you need to do is ask your Heavenly Father in Jesus’ name and you will receive. I can promise you that your life will never be the same. You will experience joy unspeakable and full of glory. Think of it, the Third Person of the Godhead has come to live in you. It doesn’t get any better than that in this life!
