Authority

Every Child of God has been given authority over Satan, but few know it and exercise it.

This man (Jesus) after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever sat down on the right hand of God.” Hebrews 10:12

If you have read the Bible you have probably read this scripture, but do you realize what it has to do with you as a Believer? It is one of the most staggering statements ever made to the child of God.

When we understand the magnitude of this scripture it will open avenues into the Believer’s authority here on earth.

The scripture says, “He sat down”. To most Christians that doesn’t mean much, but to the student of the Bible it means a great deal. When Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Father, it signified that He (Jesus) had dealt with our enemy, defeated him, conquered him, took back all the authority God had given to Adam, and redeemed mankind once and for all. This may come as a shock to some, but Jesus finished His work on the earth until He comes again at the end of the age.

What does this mean to us as His Church, His Body? It means that Jesus has given the work here on the earth to His Body, to continue what He started. It means we have a responsibility as Children of God. It means that Jesus has given the Church the power of attorney to stand in His place and carry on His Work.

Power of attorney means: A written statement legally giving someone jurisdiction in their place. The Church has a written statement, and it is the Last Will and Testament of our Lord Jesus Christ, to go into all the world and preach the gospel, to carry on His Work in the earth. We are legally authorized to act in the place of our absent Lord.

  • God knows it..

  • Jesus knows it…

  • Satan knows it…but do you know it?

  • To most Believers this comes as a new revelation, and some may not believe it. But regardless if you believe it or not, does not change the fact we are endued with power from on high to function as the Body of Christ in the earth today.

Our entire redemption is based on legal acts. God has not violated His word to Adam, Satan or Himself in bringing about our position in Christ. That is why Jesus had to come as the Lamb and redeem man. God could not just take back the authority He had given to Adam, even thou Adam gave it over to Satan when he ate the forbidden fruit. God will never violate His Word. Once the authority was given to Adam by God, it belonged to Adam, too bad he sinned and gave his authority over to Satan. When Jesus conquered Satan He did it legally. Since Jesus now has jurisdiction, He has a right to give it to His Body, and we have a right to use His authority against our enemy.

Jesus is now in His High Priestly Ministry in Heaven. He is our High Priest, Advocate, and Intercessor. He represents man before the Throne of God.

“And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, (every Believer) All power is given unto me in Heaven and in earth, Go ye…” Matthew 28:18

He said, All Power…all power means all power, therefore, He has all the power in Heaven, but He also has ALL POWER IN THE EARTH. That means Satan doesn’t have the power anymore, the Body of Christ does through Jesus Christ the Head of the Church. The vine and the branch have the same life, same authority, same power.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:18-20 the authority God gave to Adam was now returned to man, not originally given, that happened in Genesis 1:26. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion…” If you have dominion you have authority.

  • “Authority” in Webster’s Dictionary states:
  • The power and right to give commands…

  • Enforce obedience….

  • Have complete jurisdiction…

  • ”Authority” in W. E. Vines Dictionary of New Testament Words

  • The right to exercise power…

  • The power to rule…

  • The power of one whose will and commands must be obeyed by others.

  • You may wonder why there is so much evil in the world today. If Satan is no longer in charge, then why such evil acts we hear about in the evening news? Just because Jesus came and took back the authority Satan deceived Adam and Eve to get, does not mean that you have authority. The only people that have jurisdiction in the spiritual realm are the Children of God. The unbeliever is still under the rule of Satan. Satan rules every unsaved person.

No one had power over Satan until Jesus offered Himself on the Cross, and that is why no one ever exercised supremacy over Satan in the Old Testament. Only those who are Born Again can exercise authority over Satan and his power, but just because authority belongs to you, does not mean it defeats Satan automatically. You have to exercise your authority for it to work, and the way you exercise authority in the spiritual realm is to speak to your adversary in Jesus’ Name. “….Whatsoever ye (you) shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 19:18. We are to speak to the enemy in Jesus’ Name and bind Satan from operating in your life. It is up to each Born Again Believer to find out what belongs to them. I want to make a very important statement here, “Satan doesn’t feel sorry for you if you don’t know the rules he will beat you up, and kill you if he can”. This is not a time to say, “Its not if you win or lose, it is how you play the game.” This is not a game, it is real, and we must set our goal to win every battle.

Satan has been around for a long and he is good at what he does. He is cunning and we have to be on our spiritual toes to watch for every move he may make. It is up to each of us to protect our God given rights, because Satan will use your authority against you if you don’t recognize him when he come around your house. He will whisper in your ear and get you to believe a lie. He will get you to doubt God’s promises if you allow it. He is a master at what he does and you must be grounded in the Word to defeat him.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and kill, and to destroy…” John 10:10

This scripture tells us that Satan does not come around for any other reason except to steal, kill or destroy. Who is his target? You are!

Authority and words go together, you cannot separate them. You express your authority with the words you speak. Therefore, we should be speaking God’s Word. What you must realize is that because Jesus gave His authority to each member of His Body, that power is working even if we are using it in a negative way. We are either sending God’s Word forth or we are sending Satan’s words. Authority is a wonderful privilege, but it is also a great responsibility.

“I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me” Psalms 39:1

“…if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth” Proverbs 30:32

Why are these scriptures so important? Because the evil thoughts are not your thought, they are Satan’s and he wants you to speak those thoughts so they will be established. You have the authority and Satan wants to use it against you. Be careful to judge your thoughts and don’t give them life by speaking them. You will live at the level of your confession, good or bad. Words are powerful, they can lift you up or destroy you, make you feel good or deflate you. They work for you or work against you.

If there are things in your life that you don’t like, you can change it with the Word of God. Satan can only do what you allow him to do. He can’t use your authority unless you let him steal it. Study God’s Word and find out what your standing is in the Family, and what belongs to you. When you realize that God the Father loves you as much as He loves Jesus, it won’t be so easy for Satan to come around and lie and steal from you. Remember this, God is more interested in you than you are, and He wants you to win in every situation that comes your way. He has given us everything we need to be victorious in this life, we just need to use what has been provided by the Blood of Jesus.

“Now then we are Ambassadors for Christ …” II Corinthians 5:20

Ambassador means the highest ranking diplomatic representative appointed by one country or government to represent it in another country or government. Every Child of God represents Heaven here in the earth in giving the Good News of the Gospel and also in power and authority. We are the highest ranking diplomats in the earth. We are the Body of Christ. God knows it, Jesus knows it, Satan knows it, and we need to know it if we are to carry on the Work of Jesus.
