Put On The Whole Armor Of God Daily
Every Christians must put on the Armor of God daily. With it we win in test and trials, without it we lose. It’s just that simple. Ephesians 6:10-11 - “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles (strategies and tricks) of the devil”.
The Living Bible says, “Last of all I want to remind you”. Paul doesn’t want us to forget a very important step in winning every battle with our enemy, and that is to put on the WHOLE armor of God before we engage the enemy God would never expect us to do something we are unable to do. He did not leave the Church here to become slaves of our enemy. He gave us everything we need to be victorious against whatever may come our way. Jesus is not only our Savior and Lord, He is also our example. If we follow His example, not only what He did, but what He said, we will overcome also. Ephesians 6:12 - “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”.
Here are the levels of demonic power listed in rank, Principalities are the highest in rank, they are master spirits, chief, magistrate, then Powers, Rulers of Darkness, and last is Spiritual Wickedness, each demonic spirit having their own expertise. These are the evil forces we battle against, and where our test and trials come from. What you are seeing, feeling, or experiencing are the symptoms of spiritual warfare. Our battle is with Satan, we are not at war with fleshly nature of man. It is the satanic influence behind evil acts of man, therefore, we must look past the person, or situation and see the real enemy behind the problem we face. God didn’t make man to be evil. It is Satan’s influence we see on the news at night, killing, stealing, fighting, child abuse, riots and much more. Scripture says we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against evil spiritual forces, but lets not forget Jesus gave us authority and power over all the power of the devil, (Luke 10:19) therefore, every time your faith is under attack, recognize it is Satan that has come to challenge your confidence in God. Paul encourages us to take the whole armor, every piece, and put it on so we can stand in the evil day, and win. When Paul said put on ALL THE ARMOR, all means all therefore, we must never leave any part of it on the floor. Ephesians 6:16 - “ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the SWORD of the Spirit, which is the WORD OF GOD”.
Paul said, “above all”, above everything don’t forget the shield and the sword. These are the two pieces of armor most Christians leave off and they are the most important part of the armor, without the shield and sword all you can do is hide inside the armor. The Word of God is your weapon and ammunition. How did Jesus defeat Satan while he was in the wilderness? (Luke 4) He defeated him with the Word of God. He said, “It is written”, quoted the Word of God which is the Sword of the Spirit. As we look at each part of the armor individually we will understand why each part is so important.
- THE BELT:
“Loins girt about with truth”, this is the belt or girdle which fits around your waist and hips, and holds other parts of the armor. John 8:31-32 - “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed and ye shall know the TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE”.
Truth is the armor belt. When we know what God said in His Word we are not fooled by the lies of Satan. The Bible tells us Satan is a liar and the truth is not in him. It is lies from Satan that holds the Saints of God in bondage, and keeps them from the abundant life Jesus came to give. Lies come in different forms, physical, mental, financial, and many other forms, but it is our responsibility to recognize them, and plant our spiritual feet on the Word of God and not give in under pressure. John 14:6 - “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…”.
The belt of the armor represents Jesus, who He is, and who He is in ME. I confess “He dwells in me and has set me free from Satan’s authority.” The Belt keeps the Breastplate secure therefore we must wear the Belt.
- BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:
The Breastplate is the part of the armor most Christians never wear because they don’t believe they are righteousness. The mistake they make is thinking it is their righteousness we are talking about here, which is so far from the truth. We are taking about the Righteousness of God that we each received at the new birth. It is the righteousness of Jesus that we received when we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior. II Corinthians 5:21 - “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that WE might be made the righteousness of God in him (Jesus)”.
Righteousness is simply being in right standing with God. It means being sinless, clean and pure before God. We understand righteousness when we realize it is Jesus in us that God is looking at when we come before Him. I think the Living Bible helps us to understand how we became the righteousness of God in Christ. II Corinthians 5:21 (Living Bible) - “For God took the sinless Christ and poured into Him our sins. Then, in exchange, he poured God’s goodness into us.”
The Breastplate of Righteousness protects our heart. We have a right to wear the Breastplate, therefore always be sure to put it on.
- FEET SHOD WITH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and His life is flowing in me. He leads and guides me through dangerous waters, through all the storms of life, through every valley. The gospel of peace keeps me quiet, peaceful, calm. Jesus is with me and I am not afraid to come against my enemy, because as long as He is with me I will win. Jesus is the undefeated victor over Satan. Jesus knows it, Satan knows it, and if I know it, all I need to do is stand on His Word and rest in the peace of God. I will not neglect this part of the armor.
- HELMET OF SALVATION
Salvation means: to be saved from danger, evil, difficulty, destruction. Therefore we must know what we have saved from and what we have been translated into, which is the Kingdom of God. Colossians 1:13,14 - “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son: In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
The Helmet protects our head, our mind. The mind is where Satan attacks. The scripture tells us we are to renew our minds with the Word of God. In other words we are to reprogram our minds to think in line with what God said, and He said we are no longer under the rule of Satan, and that we are now in His Kingdom. When we agree with what God says about us, Satan will face defeat when he comes around peddling fear and doubt. The very moment a situation or circumstance becomes known to us the enemy begins to fill our minds with everything negative. He wants us to agree with every symptom, everything we see or hear. This is the time we need the Helmet of Salvation to protect our thoughts. If we fail to protect our mind we will find ourselves agreeing and speaking the suggestions of Satan, and we will be snared with the words we speak. Proverbs 6:2 - “Thou are snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken (captive) with the words of thy mouth”.
Psalms 141:3 - “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips”.
David is asking the Lord to help him when he is under spiritual attack. The way we would phrase it today might be something like this, “Lord help me to watch what I say while the enemy is about, help me to speak what you say about me instead of doubt and unbelief.” We must watch what we say when the enemy is looking for a place to attack. - SHIELD OF FAITH
If you don’t know what God has to say about you and what He has provided for you, you will find yourself being defeated. Faith begins where the will of God is known. That is why it is so important to study God’s Word and find out what belongs to you. If you don’t know God’s will for YOU, your shield is down, and you are an easy target for whatever Satan decides to send your way. When you find out what God has given you, and believe it, you will have faith and faith is what holds us steady when the battle is raging. The fiery dart of the wicked one cannot penetrate the Shield of Faith.
- SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
Revelation 12:11 - “And they (we) overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their Testimony;….”
The Sword of the Spirit is our weapon. It is the Word of God and it is in our mouth, you must speak the Word, you can’t think the Devil away. We defeat our enemy and his attacks just like Jesus did. We plunge the Sword into Satan when we agree with and speak the Word of God. We must remember our enemy is a spiritual being and we have to use spiritual weapons. Never try to defeat Satan with natural means. Getting mad, yelling at him does no good. He must bow to the Name of Jesus, and the Blood of Jesus. Therefore, we take our stand clothed in the armor of God our shield up and our sword ready for war. We may not give it much thought, but we should, that we are behind enemy lines while here on earth, and our enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy our lives. It is up to each of us to put on the whole armor of God and make our stand daily. Someone else can’t do it for us, our salvation is personal. God expects each of us to grow up spiritually and take our place in the harvest fields, and sometimes that means overcoming obstacles Satan has put in our way. God never promised us it would be easy, but He did say He would never leave us or forsake us, He also said He had overcome the world. If He overcame, then we overcome, because we are in Him, His body. Praise God!
